The beauty of the body is
that through movement and through dance
you can embody and express the most abstract ideas.
-Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker
"re-Styled bolér" is an abstract choreographic interpretation of the famous song "Boléro" by Maurice Ravel. Choreographed by Rebecca Mary Narum and co-performed with Irene Carreño and Dagmar Ottman, the piece embodies the song's strong rhythmic attitude while integrating the gentle, sensual melody that pervades the piece through the various instrumental interpretations.
"re-Styled bolér" explores both the power of musical structures as well as the somatic effect music has on our body. Using the famous song “Boléro” by Maurice Ravel, the dancers along with choreographer Rebecca Mary search for an abstract choreographic interpretation of this song which embodies the strong rhythmic attitude of the song while integrating the gentle, sensual melody that permeates the piece through the various instrumental interpretations.
“Boléro” is one of the simplest musical compositions in all aspects - scale, rhythm, volume, melody, structural design. It is this simplicity - the subtle, small variations - that create a trance-like state in the listener, and it was this that inspired the creation of this piece.
A 17-minute contemporary dance piece, "re-Styled bolér" searches for an abstract movement interpretation of the well-known song "Boléro" by Maurice Ravel. A choreographic motif becomes the basis of the choreography. This movement sequence is played with in the course of the piece: variations of it are created or new sections are incorporated into the movement sequences. In this way, a constantly expanding dance piece is created that draws the viewer deeper and deeper into its spell.
