To the people, by the people, for the people
People are democracy
“Demokratie JETZT” (Democracy NOW) explores the current state of democracy, exploring its complexities, challenges, and enduring significance. A site-specific performance, it invites the audience into a shared reflection on democracy and its profound impact on our lives.
"Demokratie JEZTZ" is a reflection on the state and significance of democracy in our world today. It weaves together a tapestry of movement, embodying the delicate dance of responsibility and trust. In a world where opinions clash and truths waver, the performers become living metaphors for the struggle to find common ground. They ask, through their bodies, how do we walk together and separate at the same time, how do we know which opinions we can trust and believe, and how do we navigate the shadows of manipulation and transparency?
A site-specific dance performance created with the students of the Kari-Tanzhaus dance education program this piece choreographed by Rebecca Mary was the second part of a trilogy of performances they created with three different choreographers. Our creative process was influenced by the reflections people shared through a Democracy Mailbox placed in the Hildegardplatz which asked people to share their reflections on "What is democracy" and it was also important to include them someway into the performance itself to bridge the border between those speaking and those listening.
