In 2026, choreographer and dancer Rebecca Mary Narum undertakes a one-month research residency in Tijuana, Mexico, together with Chilean choreographer Andrea Lagos Neumann. Supported by Atelier Mondial the project explores Danzas Fronterizas—the transborder dance practice developed by Mexican choreographer and dance scholar Minerva Tapia. By engaging directly with Tapia and the artistic community along the Tijuana–San Diego border, the duo will immerse themselves in the cultural, political, and emotional realities that shape this choreographic language.

This residency forms the initial phase of a new dance-theater production on borders and undocumented migration, created from their perspectives as non-EU artists living in the Tri-Regio (France–Germany–Switzerland). Through embodied research, interviews, border visits, and studio explorations, they investigate how border experiences are carried, transformed, and expressed through the body. The research will culminate in a work-in-progress presentation in Tijuana and has plans to continue to develop into a full-length production premiering in Freiburg in 2027.

This residency is funded by Atelier Mondial.
