SUMMARY:Performance - Vom Schrei zur Bewegung
DESCRIPTION:In “Vom Schrei zur Bewegung” (From Scream to Movement)\, Chilean choreographer Andrea Lagos Neumann\, together with Felipe González Berríos\, Florencia Lagos Neumann\, Lola Villegas Fragoso and Rebecca Mary Narum\, poses a fundamental question: How can we hear the voices of the FLINTA* community (women\, lesbians\, intersex\, non-binary\, trans and agender people)\, who have often been silenced throughout history? \nUsing dance\, music\, video and embroidery\, a powerful archive of memories and resistance is created that keeps testimonies of survivors of the Latin American dictatorships (1970-1990) alive. At a time when democracy is under threat worldwide\, the question arises: How can we prevent these stories from falling silent again? \nFrom Cry to Movement offers more than a performance – it is an invitation to actively engage with the past and question what responsibility we have today for justice and remembrance. An appeal that is now more urgent than ever. \nTickets coming soon! \nWith:\n\nArtistic direction: Andrea Lagos Neumann\nCo-producer: Felipe González Berríos\nConcept: Florencia Lagos Neumann\, Felipe González Berríos and Andrea Lagos Neumann\nDance: Felipe González Berríos\, Rebecca Mary Narum and Lola Villegas Fragoso\nMusic: Francisco C. Goldschmidt\nVideo: Konrad Bohley\nCostume: Bianka Heck\nProduction management: Linda Pilar Brodhag/alado.productions\nTechnology: Team E-WERK Freiburg \n\nSupported by the Freiburg Cultural Office\, the Baden-Württemberg State Association of Independent Dance and Theater Artists with funds from the Ministry of Science\, Research and the Arts and the Baden-Württemberg State Bank Foundation. \nIn cooperation with E-WERK Freiburg eV\, Tertulia Freiburg eV\, Nuestra América eV\, Archiv Soziale Bewegung eV\, Feministische Geschichtswerkstatt Freiburg eV\, Feministisches Zentrum Freiburg eV

SUMMARY:Performance - Unwritten Bodies: Seen & Unseen
DESCRIPTION:A German-Indian project about bodies\, identity\, and social conditioning. Rebecca Mary Narum (DE/USA) and Purnendra Meshram (IN) encounter each other with their visibly different bodies and experiences. Using contact improvisation\, real-time composition\, and a transparent plastic sheet as a symbol of social “skins\,” they explore closeness and difference\, visibility and withdrawal. The project invites the audience to actively participate—not only as spectators\, but as co-researchers. In open rehearsals\, interactive workshops\, and performances “Unwritten Bodies” becomes a space for encounter. Sound (Fiona Combosch) and film (Satya Gautam) expand the dialogue on a sensory level. This artistic research is not a finished product\, but a living\, site-specific process: an invitation to encounter oneself and others anew in the space between imposed identity and freedom. \nFunded by the Goethe Institute\, Friedrich Stiftung\, Kulturamt Freiburg\, Tanzzentrale der Region Nürnberg e.V. & forExchange+ Residency. Supported by Schopf 2\, BLMK\, Kuli Khirkee\, Vinyasa EARTH & bewegungs-art Freiburg e.V. \nTickets coming soon! \n

SUMMARY:Workshop: “The Listening Body” – Contact Improvisation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:“The Listening Body” is a Contact Improvisation workshop with a simple proposal: arriving without forcing\, opening the body to listening and following where that openness leads. In the workshop\, we explore how the body can be understood through minimal movement—how even the smallest shift\, pause\, or touch can carry depth and information. \nThe workshop is intended for people with experience in Contact Improvisation or another dance field. Through guided explorations\, participants are invited into a state where listening becomes visible\, the body speaks in subtle ways\, and space transforms into a playground of possibilities. \nWe aim to cultivate a listening body—creating a readiness so complete that\, although nothing is planned\, anything is possible. Opening the body so that falling onto the shoulder of another body becomes as natural as following it to the floor. Rather than forcing\, we cultivate trust in the sensing body\, to catch the opportunities as they appear and let go of them as they pass by. This practice does not aim to invent something new but instead to return more deeply to the basic principles of Contact Improvisation: giving time and space for the senses to heighten\, and for the body to truly open. \nThis workshop is grounded in the ongoing research for Purnendra Kumar Meshram and Rebecca Mary Narum’s newest improvised dance piece\, “Unwritten Bodies: Seen and Unseen.” \nWhen: Saturday\, 10. Jan. 2025 from 14-18:00 & Sunday\, 11. Jan. 2026 from 11-15:00\nWhere: Studio FE6a\, Ferdinand-Weiss Strasse 6a\, 79106 Freiburg\nFor who: professional dancers and experienced amateur dancers\nRegistration: workshop@bewegungs-art.de \n  \nTeachers:\nPurnendra Meshram is an Indian contemporary movement artist whose passion for dance began in childhood. In 2013\, he launched his professional career by joining the Attakkalari diploma program for Movement Arts and Mix Media\, where he honed his skills in various contemporary dance techniques. In addition to contemporary dance\, he is proficient in hip-hop and Kalaripayattu\, a traditional Indian martial art. \nPurnendra has collaborated with esteemed choreographers in India and abroad and has spent a year as a performer at Dubai Parks and Resorts. He continues to perform\, teach\, and create his work\, always seeking new creative avenues. \nHis choreography “2 Men” has garnered several accolades\, including first place in the Festival 10 Sentidos Choreographic Competition in Valencia\, Spain\, in 2019\, and second place in the Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Awards (PECDA) in Chennai\, India\, in 2018. \nHis dedication to his artistry has earned him the Serendipity Arts Residency 2024\, Pina Bausch Fellowship 2023\, and Artlink 100 Artist Grant 2022. Purnendra is an artist who continually pushes his boundaries and explores new artistic possibilities. He serves as an inspiration to aspiring dancers and artists by sharing his knowledge and expertise with others. \nRebecca Mary Narum is an American contemporary dance artist based in Freiburg\, Germany since 2015. She began dancing as a child\, training in ballet\, jazz\, and tap\, and later performed on her high school dance team. After working with Misch Mash Dance Company in New York\, she continued her studies in Spain from 2013–2015\, where she also encountered contact improvisation. She then completed her professional training at bewegungs-art Freiburg / TIP – School for Dance\, Improvisation and Performance. \nSince 2017\, Rebecca has worked as a freelance dancer\, choreographer\, and teacher. Her teaching and artistic work draw from improvisation\, contact improvisation\, and a wide range of dance techniques. She is particularly interested in the interplay between clarity and precision with freedom and playfulness. She teaches regularly in the vocational programs at bewegungs-art Freiburg\, at Profitraining Freiburg and Basel\, and at various festivals\, and evening schools. \nWith an interest to actively support the local dance scene\, alongside her teaching she organizes the onCe Festival for Instant Composition\, coordinates Profitraining Freiburg\, and serves on the consultation board of Tanznetz Freiburg. As a choreographer and dancer\, her works have been presented in Germany\, Serbia\, Croatia and the USA.

SUMMARY:Performance - "Fragments of One"
DESCRIPTION:Two people\, one body. Two bodies\, one organism.\nNot black\, not white\, not red\, not blue.\nConnected\, unconnected. One and yet separate.\nTouched yet neutral\, empty yet filled\, orderly and yet not perfect. \nWhen do we merge into one and when do we remain separate? How transparent are we\, were we\, have we become? What does it mean to walk alone\, or together? \nIn the dance performance “Fragments of One\,” Rebecca Mary Narum and Miriam Cheema explore the layers of being connected. The two performers invite you into the different states of an individual’s being within two bodies. They explore the permeability of their bodies and beings\, a dance between two and one. \nMiriam Cheema and Rebecca Mary will be performing “Fragments of One” once again in the Kammertheater of E-Werk Freiburg! \nMore info on the piece here.

SUMMARY:Performances - „Findings Vol 12“
DESCRIPTION:„Findings Vol 12“ – Instant Composition \nAccomplices of Instant Composition – they act freely and unprotected. They are wild\, unpredictable\, idiosyncratic and united in their interaction\, inappropriate\, appropriate. Here\, risk is desired\, confrontation and yet always: closeness. Intuitive composing guides the creative flow while capturing the magic of the moment. \n“The Accomplices” are a team of freelance professional artists – performance\, dance\, choreography\, who have performed numerous Instant Compositions in various constellations at different locations since 2022 under the direction of Lilo Stahl. \n— \nThis is part of the onCe instant composition Festival Freiburg.  The onCe Festival celebrates the richness and diversity of improvised performance art every two years. \nInstant Composition is based on democratic action and presence in the moment. In Freiburg it dates back to the 1980s and is known and recognized nationally and internationally. We are convinced that it is more important than ever to give this democratic art form a visible space. \nAt the festival you can explore the potential\, diversity and origins of improvisation and get to know it all over again. Artists from different disciplines\, generations and cultural backgrounds meet and exchange ideas. For a week we celebrate improvisation as the ART OF THE MOMENT and as a living stage art. During the day there are workshops for dance professionals\, enthusiasts and interested amateurs and an active supporting program. In the evenings various performances by improvisation artists from all over the world take place in the E-WERK Freiburg and SÜDUFER.

SUMMARY:Guest Performance - Yaku Samay
DESCRIPTION:Yaku Samay – Atem des Wassers \n“I called my world Earth\, but I thought it should really be called Water” (Maja Lunde) \nThe mixedabled dance piece Yaku Samay takes the essence of water as a metaphor to artistically explore the connection between humans and nature.\nThe diversity in quality and intensity of the element is reflected in the movement and sound of the dancers\, transforming them into deeply human forms of expression. \nAs the source of life\, water symbolizes a universal\, reliable constant – the sound of waves\, the flow of rivers\, the cyclical nature of water in a dramaturgy of a permanent cycle in and around the earth. \nSix dancers and a movement choir immerse themselves in the facets of water and create a sensual experience from the perspective of their lived experience\, in which the boundaries between body\, sound and water dissolve.

DESCRIPTION:“I called my world Earth\, but I thought it should really be called Water” (Maja Lunde) \nThe mixedabled dance piece Yaku Samay takes the essence of water as a metaphor to artistically explore the connection between humans and nature.\nThe diversity in quality and intensity of the element is reflected in the movement and sound of the dancers\, transforming them into deeply human forms of expression. \nTickets.

SUMMARY:The Accomplices: Findings Vol. 12
DESCRIPTION:Accomplices of instant composition – they act freely and unprotected.\nRisk is welcome here\, confrontation and yet always: closeness.\nAll that matters is the moment of encounter. \nThe performers are part of a research group that has been in a permanent process of deepening under the direction of Lilo Stahl since 2022: \n“Improvisation is more than skill and technique. It is a lively interplay of inspiration\, chance\, and creative freedom. Intuitive composing directs the creative flow\, capturing the magic of the moment.”

SUMMARY:Interstellar – dance performance with ZweierPasch
DESCRIPTION:The hip hop band Zweierpasch is crossing borders: In cooperation with the Freiburg Planetarium\, the video artist Michaela Klaehn and dancers Rebecca Mary & Miriam Cheema\, the six-person band from Freiburg and Strasbourg is planning an audiovisual journey to the stars with “Interstellar” for October 23\, 2024. \nWith Interstellar\, the band wants to bring live music\, visuals and dance to life in a special space. The team will take the audience to the Freiburg Planetarium on Wednesday\, October 23rd\, from 7 p.m. for an unprecedented event: The band will play a one-hour concert – and fly into space with the audience. The visuals designed for this spectacle take you to 12 planets. Each one represents a song by the band. \nThe dome of the planetarium offers unique opportunities to present the songs in a powerful way. It is about war and peace\, transience and sustainability\, exchange and tolerance. The dancers Miriam Cheema and Rebecca Mary Narum will be seen as special guests – with a performance around the projector in the middle of the room
